Flatbush Lysistrata is an adaptation of the Aristophanes set among the Hasidic Jewish community at an axe-throwing parlor. It began life as a physical theater piece. It's a comedy and also an examination of fundamentalism: what draws us to it, and how women create spaces for themselves within it.
Flatbush Lysistrata is a semi-finalist for the O’Neill Playwrights Conference and a finalist for the Jewish Plays Project.

Lila Rachel Becker (she/her) is a DC-raised, East Coast-based director, teacher, somatic therapist, and acrobat. She works across theater, music, and circus to stage joyful, rigorous productions of formally inventive new work and irreverent reimaginings of classics that challenge us to think and act with radical hope. With her work in live performance, she fights the pillaging of human attention by megacorporations and the increasing digitization of our lives.
Lila has developed and directed work with theaters all over the country, including The Civilians, Actors Theatre of Louisville, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company, Pioneer Theatre Company, Arizona Theatre Company, Luna Stage, the Williamstown Theatre Festival, Portland Stage Company, Folger Theatre, the First National Tour of The Bridges of Madison County, and the Source Festival. Her work has been seen internationally at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. BA Wesleyan University, MFA University of Iowa.
